Biography

Roy A. Bourgeois has been a lawyer since 1977 and is one of the founding partners of the firm. His areas of professional practice include the trial of complex business cases, product liability litigation and professional responsibility matters. In the area of business litigation Attorney Bourgeois has been listed among the Best Lawyers in America for many years and is frequently asked to lecture at continuing legal education programs on subjects such as complex business litigation, closely-held business disputes and litigation within family-owned businesses. Attorney Bourgeois has also successfully brought to trial a number of product liability cases involving dangerous consumer products and catastrophic injury to consumers and to children. He has been accepted as a member of the American Board of Trial Advocates, the American Association for Justice and the Massachusetts Academy of Trial Attorneys. He volunteers as trial practice instructor for both Massachusetts Continuing Legal Education and the National Institute for Trial Advocacy.

Attorney Bourgeois is also noted for his expertise in the area of legal ethics, professional responsibility and Bar discipline, having argued several important attorney discipline cases before the Commonwealth Supreme Judicial Court. A member of the Association of Professional Responsibility Lawyers, he also served as the Chairman of the Massachusetts Bar Association Task Force on Professional Responsibility which issued its Report in 2005 concerning the state of Bar discipline in Massachusetts and which ultimately led to several procedure revisions to the Massachusetts attorney discipline process. Attorney Bourgeois is frequently asked to serve as an expert witness in legal malpractice and similar cases.

Attorney Bourgeois' community activities have included commitment to the Central Massachusetts Chapter of the American Red Cross from 1990 - 1996 (Director, Executive Committee, Pro Bono General Counsel), AIDS Project Worcester from 1996 - 2001 (Director, Executive Committee, Pro Bono General Counsel), and Genesis Club, Inc. (a support organization for individuals in mental health recovery) from 2002 - present (Director, Treasurer, Executive Committee and Pro Bono General Counsel).
